Bedraggled, sore and aching - I would guess that's how the comics of Belfast Fringe Festival feel now that it's all finally over (and perhaps their egos too, in some cases). Hopefully the audiences feel much the same. It was a heavy-going weekend by all counts, with hilarity, drunkenness and ramshackle fun throughout.
Despite seeing some excellent shows and performances, by far the best thing about the weekend was the sense of community between the comics. Even for a small city, sometimes the "scene" as it were, can feel fragmented. If a comic could, they would stay for the entire day to watch and support the proceedings.
There's a lot of potential and talent in this tiny part of the world, and if that can be harnessed and built upon like it was last weekend, then who knows what can be made of it. Either that or the entire thing will perhaps be left to "the realm of silly-billies".
